OPED: School Board campaign call “tried to fool” voters

SUBMITTED BY: Donna Jack, Evergreen

A robo call today tried to fool you by saying that Republicans support the ladies running for School Board.  Don’t be confused – the Jefferson County Republican Party has endorsed Preston Branaugh and Jim Powers for Jeffco School Board.

While all candidates have members of both parties supporting them, and the party of each candidate is not designated on the ballot, each candidate is associated with a political party.  The Jeffco Democrats are working to get the ladies elected. Check out www.jeffcodems.org .

The Jeffco Republicans are working to get Preston Branaugh and Jim  Powers elected.  Check out www.jeffcorepublicans.com.

The robo call did not tell you that Republican Precinct Committee people and other Republican volunteers have been calling Republicans in their precincts sharing that they and the Jeffco GOP support Republicans Preston and Jim.  They’re also sharing that they and the Jeffco GOP are against Proposition 103.

The robo call today failed to tell you that one of the ladies headed the committee for another bond and mill levy (higher taxes) until she announced her candidacy for school board.  Yes, just last September she talked to the school board about the possibility of a 2011 bond and mill on the ballot.  The robo call also did not tell you the other lady supports Prop 103.  Is more money really the answer?

Our School District needs people who are not beholden to unions or to the status quo.  Serious spending cuts are going to have to be made. Money is going to have to be re-allocated.  Preston and Jim are not union supported, and are free to make the best of the tough decisions that will have to be made to help students achieve in Jeffco Public Schools.
