Lakewood man suspected in child porn, exploitation case

cody charlton_1LAKEWOOD – A 31-year-old Lakewood man has been released on bond after he was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.

Investigators arrested Cody Ryan Charlton May 1 at his parent’s home at 1958 S. Van Gordon St., which police say also was the site of an in-home daycare center operated by Charlton’s mother. Because the arrest affidavit filed in the case has been sealed, it is not clear whether any of the charges involve the children who were staying at the home daycare facility.

When Lakewood Police detectives and investigators from the Jefferson County District Attorneys Office investigator served a search warrant at the home on April 28, they found “sexually graphic video and still images of children,” according to a spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office.

Charlton was arrested May 1, three days after the search warrant was served. He posted $15,000 bond and left jail the next day. Charlton is expected to be in court for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. May 26 at 1:30.  He is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a child and a single count of attempted exploitation of a child.

The conditions of his bond require that he not possess weapons, not have contact with anyone under the age of 18 and that he not use the Internet.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the case or the suspect to contact DA’s Investigator Mike Harris at 303-271-6766.
