Saturday’s mile-long Courage Walk will honor crime victims
JEFFERSON COUNTY - The 18th Annual Courage honoring the strength of crime victims will be Saturday, April 16, at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building.
The walk is sponsored by victim advocates from the 1st Judicial District and coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The walk highlights the strength and courage mustered by crime victims in difficult times and commemorates those who have lost loved ones to violence.
Anyone can participate at no cost, but a suggested donation of $10 is encouraged. Donations will be used to maintain the Courage Garden, to train victim-advocate volunteers and help crime victims in need.
This year’s Courage Walk features a colorful display of T-shirts hand-decorated by crime victims participating in The Clothesline Project. The display expresses victims’ feelings about crime and its aftermath.
Sheriff Ted Mink will kick off the event.
The walk starts at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building in Golden and winds around the county campus, ending at the Courage Garden south of the building. After the walk, Phil and Staci Clark, the founders of the Toni Connection, will speak and a flight of doves will be released in honor of crime victims.
Registration begins at 10 a.m., accompanied by a free continental breakfast. The 1-mile walk, which is wheel-chair accessible, starts at 11 a.m. and dogs on leashes are welcome.

The event provides “a time to celebrate the power of victims and the victims’ rights movement to change the courts of history and transform lives and support victims in reshaping their destinies to overcome the impact of crime,” according to a spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office.
