JEFFERSON COUNTY – A former Alameda High School coach is in Jefferson County Jail, accused of three felony counts stemming from an alleged sexual relationship with a female student.
Lakewood police detectives have arrested Wesley Adam Specht, 26, late Wednesday in connection with what investigators believe was a months-long “inappropriate sexual relationship”, according to a statement released Thursday by LPD spokesman Steve Davis.
The alleged sexual assaults occurred at “three or four different locations,” according to Davis. The locations were not revealed.
Specht was a girls basketball coach at AHS, but it is unclear whether the alleged victim was a member of Specht’s team.
Police were releasing few details, including the age of the alleged victim.
“Due to the nature of the charges and the juvenile status of the victim, no further details are available at this time,” according to Davis.
Specht is the latest of a number of Jeffco coaches and teachers, both male and female – arrested after allegations of sexual misconduct with students.
Specht was booked on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of behavior and “sexual exploitation of a child, according to Davis. He remained jailed late Thursday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bond after making his first court appearance earlier in the day.
Formal charges are expected to be filed by the District Attorneys Office.
Specht was hired at AHS as an assistant coach in November, 2009 and later became the girls’ varsity basketball coach. Davis said the suspect was a contract employee with the Jefferson County School District, but is no longer employed by the district.
Lakewood Police detectives urge who may have information that would assist in the investigation of Specht to contact Detective Scott Tripp at 303-987-7228.
