FastTracks work to close part of Sheridan, West 6th/Indiana ramps

LAKEWOOD – FasTracks work will close all lanes along a four-block stretch of Sheridan Boulevard for the entire weekend, Regional Transportation District construction officials announced.

And another stretch of the West Corridor light rail line also will handout a few headaches to drivers Monday night into Tuesday morning.

That work will close all lanes of westbound 6th Avenue at Indiana Street through the night, rerouting traffic via the 6th Avenue exit ramps and entrance ramps at Indiana Street. Work crews also will close Indiana Street northbound between the detour ramps.

Normal traffic is expected to resume at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, in time for the morning commute.

The 6th Avenue/Indiana ramp closure originally was scheduled for last week but was canceled because of what an RTD statement called “unforeseen circumstances.”

After the weekend closure of Sheridan Boulevard, construction crews are expected to reopen the major thoroughfare at 5:30 a.m. Monday. RTD suggests motorists avoid the closure by using Federal Boulevard or Wadsworth Boulevard, instead.

FasTracks is RTD’s voter-approved transit program to expand rail and bus service throughout the RTD service area. FasTracks will build 122 miles of commuter rail and light rail, 18 miles of bus rapid transit service, add 21,000 new parking spaces, redevelop Denver Union Station and redirect bus service to better connect the eight-county District. The FasTracks investment initiative is projected to create more than 10,000 jobs during the height of construction, and will pump billions of dollars into the regional economy.
