Investigators rule out foul play in pond death
JEFFERSON COUNTY – An investigation into a woman’s body found in a detention pond near Chatfield Reservoir earlier this week found no indication of foul play, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“The preliminary investigation of the body recovered from the Jeffco pond at S. Carr St. and Ute Ave. has resulted in no suspicions of foul play, and is not being pursued as a criminal investigation,” according to a statement released by a Sheriff’s Office spokesman Wednesday.
Although the county Coroner’s Office has identified the body, the spokesman would say only that the body is that of an adult woman. Her name and age are being withheld to make sure all of her family members have been notified, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mark Techmeyer.
The body was found Tuesday afternoon after a passerby noticed a woman’s purse and cell phone near the pond. When the woman’s parents were contacted, they told officers they had not seen their daughter for days, but had not filed a missing-person report.
