Toastmasters’ Thunderbolt Orators chapter hosts kids
LAKEWOOD – Thunderbolt Orators, one of six Toastmaster clubs in the city, will cater to the younger set on “Bring a Kid to Toastmaster Day” Aug. 5 during their meeting at the Kinder Morgan Building, 370 Van Gordon St.
One of more than 10,000 Toastmaster clubs in the world, the Thunderbolt Orator Chapter is the winner of the 2010 President’s Distinguished Club Award, the highest honor that a local chapter can attain from Toastmaster International headquarters in California.
“To earn that award we had to accomplish 10 goals, including having members participate in area and district speech meets, attendance at meetings, recruitment of new members and training programs for our officers,” said David Thyfault, the chapter’s vice president of Public Relations. “I live in Littleton, but I travel to this particular club because of their great success.”
Thunderbolt Orators meets every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Kinder Morgan Building.
“We take special pride in how we treat newcomers,” Thyfault said. “People who want to improve their speaking skills tend to be rather apprehensive so we nurture them in the beginning and before long, they just fall in line.”
