Chatfield’s Slocum Cabin Days a celebration of Colorado’s past

LITTLETON – Come join the fun at Chatfield State Park for Slocum Cabin Days on June 18-20. Events include furs and historic trade goods, storytelling, cannon drill and firing, frontier-style cast-iron cooking, a Saturday night council fire and flag retirement ceremony, old-fashioned crafts such as beading and lace making, music and much more. You can also take wildflower walks or participate in an exciting new game for families, called the Cherokee Trail, where kids can pretend they’re on a wagon train heading west.
History comes to life as mountain men and women demonstrate skills and activities in costumes and encampments of the 19th century.
Schedule of events
9:30 a.m. – noon (Saturday only) Wildflower walks. A one-hour walk to discover the historical uses of plants at Chatfield. Find out which plants provided health and nutrition for early settlers, Native Americans and wildlife.
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Friday and Saturday) Demonstrations by mountain men and women, including story-telling, music, knife throwing, cast iron cooking, cannon drill and firing, and more.

7 p.m. (Friday and Saturday) Council fire and mountain men and women stories
9 p.m. (Saturday only) Flag retirement ceremony
All activities are open to the public with the purchase of a Colorado State Parks daily or annual pass. Meet at Slocum Cabin, located next to the park’s headquarters, at the noted time and take a step back in time to relive this exciting period of Colorado’s history!
