OPED: Attwood has what Ward 4 needs

SUBMITTED BY: PJ King, Lakewood Voter

Oct. 15, Mr. Ken Bowen’s Lakewood Sentinel Opinion letter indicated that, “For Ward 4 we don’t need a rookie”. With this I take exception.

Amy Attwood is more than capable, with the experience, the dedication, and the leadership Ward 4 needs.

When did Lakewood become a ‘big’ business? I thought we were a City, not a GM or Wal-Mart.

When did Lakewood become a breeding ground for ‘big’? I thought the reason most of us lived here was the ’smallness’, the neighborhood feeling.

When did Lakewood need ‘a longtime federal employee’, just to understand ‘big numbers’? I thought most experienced business people could.

Small business is where communities grow into cities, not the largess of ‘big business’.

Small business is what grows America and thus our neighborhoods, our schools, our leaders.

Small business is what Ward 4 needs to continue the march forward, with Lakewood’s influence on the Rooney Road development area expansion; the growth of Solterra’s tax base; the management of the Fed Center development; the prospering in small business friendly development, where more jobs are created for the citizens of Lakewood and Ward 4.

Let’s elect an engaging individual who will facilitate Ward 4 involvement and influence in city government.

Let’s elect an experienced individual who will work to protect and maintain Ward 4 open spaces, parks and neighborhood integrity.

Let’s elect an committed individual who will work to encourage policies that Ward 4 can use to bring more success to it’s residents.

Amy Attwood is that individual; she has a new fresh perspective on the leadership needs for Lakewood and the careful growth development of Ward 4.

Cast your vote for Attwood and let’s move forward with a positive contribution to Lakewood’s future.

  1. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah…This sounds just like her website. Where’s the meat? Perhaps you might consider voting for someone that actually helped to create some Parks in Lakewood. Check out the facts. By the way its just as hard to find facts on Amy’s website as it has been to find Amy at City events for the last couple of years. You might also like to check out the contributions and expenditures reports at http://www.lakewood.org/index.cfm?&include=/CC/FCPA/Candidates/2009/Candidates.cfm . Whose been accepting contributions from lobbyists, developers and special interest groups.

  2. Ken Bowen wrote an excellent letter that brought foward good reasons for who he will be supporting. It had unique ideas not mentioned earlier in the Campaign. In addition Karen Culver wrote a letter speaking of the in person work she has done with Wiechman.

All I see here is a repetition of the same rhetoric I have been hearing all summer.
