FasTracks work to close 6th Ave. ramp at Union

LAKEWOOD – Work crews will close the West 6th Avenue eastbound off-ramp to Union Boulevard this weekend to accommodate crews working on FasTrack’s West Corridor light rail line.

The off-ramp is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday to relocate an agricultural water ditch across the ramp. The crews are changing the course of the agricultural ditch, boring beneath Union east to the Cold Spring RTD lot.

Other work is under way, including installation of concrete traffic barriers along the south side of the West 6th just west of Union Boulevard. The barriers are a prelude to construction of more than 3,000 feet of retaining walls. Other projects in the immediate area include bridge construction across West 6th just east of the Simms Street/Union Boulevard overpass, the flyover bridge across West 6th at Indiana Street.

The Denver Transit Construction Group is the contractor for the West Corridor line.

Voters approved FasTracks’ West Corridor Light Rail project in 2004.

The estimated cost of the entire FasTracks project, originally estimated at $4.7 billion, now is expected to cost $6.2 billion.

The West Corridor line is expected to open in 2013.
