Woman gets probation in foiled bank heist

JEFFERSON COUNTY – A woman who tried to rob a south Lakewood bank in January was sentenced to two years probation and 80 hours of community service by Jefferson County District Court Judge Jane Tidball Monday.

Danette Hubbard, 46, of Castle Rock pleaded guilty to a class 5 felony charge of attempted robbery in connection with a foiled hold up at Citywide Bank, 3290 S. Wadsworth Boulevard on Jan. 9.

She told a bank employee she had a bomb inside a bag and would explode it unless the employee handed over $5,000. A call from the bank alerted police that a crime was in progress and officers confronted Hubbard as she left the bank still carrying the bag.

After she was ordered to drop the bag, officers found it contained an aerosol spray can.

Hubbard was taken into custody after sentencing on a warrant from Denver, said Pam Russell, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office.
