NIGHT HIKES AT BEAR CREEK LAKE PARK: Three naturalist-guided hikes under the full moon are part of the summer experience at Lakewood’s Bear Creek Lake Park.
The hikes – Sunday, June 7; Tuesday, July 7; and Wednesday, Aug. 5, – are family events, but leave the dogs at home so the park’s nocturnal wildlife will be less wary. The 90-minute walk-and-observe hikes begin at 7:30 p.m. and leave from the park’s visitor center.
Hikers must register by the Monday before each walk. Call: 303-697-6157.
Other planned events at Bear Creek and nearby William Frederick Hayden Park on Green Mountain include a May 16 Wildflower Walk, a Fishing is Fun Day June 6, a number of wildlife presentations, a naturalist’s scavenger hunt and a Family Adventure Race.

DRIVING THE FIGHT AGAINST DVT: St. Anthony Central Hospital is hosting the nation-wide “Driving to Reduce the Risk of DVT RV Tour,” an effort to raise awareness about the need for Deep Vein Thrombosis risk assessment.
DTV is a blood clot that forms inside a deep vein, most often in the lower leg. The clot can break off and can cause complications, some fatal. Such clots have the potential of moving into the lungs, creating a life-threatening condition requiring emergency medical attention.
Up to 2 million Americans experience DTV each year and about 300,000 die from DTV-related pulmonary embolism.
The DTV RV Tour will be at St. Anthony Thursday, April 30 from noon until 4 p.m. The RV provides interactive risk-assessment activities and kiosks. The event is free and the RV will be parked near the hospital’s east entrance at 4231 W. 16th Ave., Denver.
