Performer builds on historic roles
Rebecca Salomonsson played a character larger than life two years ago when she was Molly Brown. Now, she’s larger than her character in her latest Jefferson County public libraries performance.
Salomonsson portrayed Molly Brown two years ago for Knott’s Kids, a program that brings history alive for youngsters 6 and up. The free public program coincided with an exhibit on the Titanic at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
In her latest role, Salomonsson portrays the old Capitol in Golden during Colorado’s territorial days. The performance was conceived by Paula Hutman of the Jefferson County Historial Commission. (Check jefferson.lib.co.us for events and information.) The theme is “history in your neighborhood.”
Co-starring is Rex Rideout, a cowboy who interacts with the talking building.
In the play, Salomonsson and Rideout carry on a dialogue about historic sites in Jefferson County, inviting children on stage to interact.
Salomonsson’s career in interactive history started when she left Colorado State University in Fort Collins after two years and landed in Boston.
“I was looking for a change of scenery,” she said.
